How to play SoloWord: your first round

SoloWord is a word guessing game built around meaning. You do not receive a definition or a pattern of missing letters. Instead, each guess gives you feedback on its closeness to a hidden word. Your task is to find the exact answer.

Set up a round

Install SoloWord from Google Play, then choose the language in which you want to play. The game supports English, Russian, Armenian, Spanish, French, German and Chinese. Choose the game language before you start; changing the website language does not change a round in the app.

For a first game, start with Classic and an easy difficulty. Classic lets you experiment without an opponent. Normal, hard and random difficulties offer different word selections when you want another challenge.

Use each attempt to test an idea

  1. Enter a word in the selected game language.
  2. Read its closeness score and compare it with your strongest previous guesses.
  3. Try a related idea if the score improves, or explore another topic if you get stuck.
  4. Keep going until the game confirms that you have found the hidden word.

Start with several different topics, such as food, nature, a person or an object. The useful result is a direction for your next guess, even if the first word is far from the answer. Classic rounds allow unlimited attempts.

A practical example: follow the relationship

Suppose your strongest guess is forest. Test several relationships: tree for something inside it, wood for a material, park for a related place and nature for a wider category. If tree improves your score, explore that branch with leaf, trunk or root.

This is an example of a strategy, not a recorded round. The actual scores depend on the hidden word. Do not assume that a word from this example will always be close in your game.

Changing one idea at a time makes feedback easier to use. Repeatedly entering nearly identical forms can teach you less than trying a different relationship.

Choose the next challenge

  • Classic: solve at your own pace with a chosen difficulty.
  • Daily: return for the day's challenge.
  • Categories: focus on animals, food, nature or objects.
  • Friend: set a secret word for someone to guess, without hints.
  • Online duel: compete with another player, including an option to set words for each other.

A friendly custom-word challenge and an online duel are different modes. Use the duel guide when you want a live match.

When you stop making progress

Return to your best few words and ask what they share. Try a place, action, material or purpose connected to them, rather than only synonyms. A very close guess still needs to lead you to the exact answer.

If a hint is available in your mode, the app offers the supported ways to obtain it. See coins and hints before spending coins, or the score guide if the feedback seems surprising.
